Choosing the right technique
If we choose the FUE technique, we should shave the hair of the donor area. But If we choose the FUT technique, we do not need to shave the donor area.
Both in the FUE and in the FUT technique, donor site preparation begins with local anesthesia administration and after that hair follicles are harvested either one by one or all together in a linear mode.
The 1st step of the HT procedure
The surgical team of technicians will start preparing the hair follicles with special stereomicroscopes to remove excess fibrous and fatty tissue while trying to avoid damaging the follicular cells that will be used for grafting. At the same time, if the physician has applied the FUT technique, he sutures the donor area using the Trichophytic Closure, that is a unique technique, which results in much finer scars at the donor area.
The surgeon before puncturing with special medical tools the sites for receiving the grafts, examines whether the hair follicles are perfectly prepared in length and thickness to fit into the recipient area.
Placing the grafts
Only if fitting is perfect he starts placing them in a predetermined density and pattern, and angling the insertions in a consistent fashion to promote a realistic hair pattern. Creating the insertions, which will host the hair follicles, is the most difficult process because they must have different depths, angles and directions depending on which parts of the recipient area are going to be inserted. The main goal is to mimic the natural hair.
When insertions in the recipient area are completed, the technicians generally do the final part of the procedure, inserting the individual grafts in place.
The surgeon monitors the procedure and controls the placement so that it is done in the right direction but also in the right depth.
At this point, most patients see a movie or just fall asleep.
Finalizing the HT procedure
Once the placement of all the hair follicles is complete, the doctor performs the final checkup.
He then gives to the patient instructions of how to take care of donor and recipient areas for the next few days till the next appointment, which is always on the fourth day.
What to expect after the Hair Transplant is over
You may expect to experience no pain during the procedure thanks to local anesthesia and the specific techniques we apply.
It is minimally invasive, so we can guarantee that you will not have any swelling or pain even on the same day back home nor the next few days when the local anesthesia no longer last. What you might feel is like you have stayed up all night and you get up with a mild headache. By the next day, you will experience no inconvenience, whatsoever.
The most important thing from now on is to follow the instructions you have been given.
Hair transplant procedure is over and in a few months, you will start enjoying its results.
